What Is Shahi Paneer?

Shahi Paneer is a popular North Indian dish traditionally prepared with paneer cooked in a rich, mildly spiced gravy. The word Shahi means “royal,” and the dish lives up to its name with its creamy texture, aromatic spices and indulgent flavor.

It pairs beautifully with naan, roti, paratha, jeera rice or pulao, making it an excellent choice for family dinners, celebrations and special occasions.

Ingredients

For approximately 3–4 servings:

  • 250–300 g paneer, cut into cubes
  • 2 medium onions, finely chopped
  • 2–3 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • 10–12 cashews
  • 1–2 green chillies
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 2–3 tbsp cooking oil or ghee
  • 2–3 tbsp fresh cream
  • 1–2 tbsp Rakesh Masala Shahi Paneer Masala
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • ½–1 cup water
  • Fresh coriander for garnishing

How to Make Shahi Paneer

1. Prepare the Gravy Base

Heat oil or ghee in a pan. Add chopped onions and sauté until they become soft and lightly golden.

Add ginger-garlic paste and green chillies. Cook for another minute until fragrant.

Add chopped tomatoes and cashews. Cook until the tomatoes become soft and the mixture is well combined.

Allow the mixture to cool slightly, then blend it into a smooth paste.

2. Cook the Masala

Heat a little oil or ghee in the same pan and add the prepared gravy.

Now add turmeric, salt and Rakesh Masala Shahi Paneer Masala.

Mix well and cook on medium heat for a few minutes. Letting the masala cook properly helps release its aroma and gives the gravy a deeper, richer flavor.

3. Add Water and Paneer

Add water according to your preferred consistency and bring the gravy to a gentle simmer.

Add the paneer cubes and carefully mix them into the gravy.

Cook for another 3–5 minutes on low to medium heat so the paneer absorbs the flavors without becoming tough.

4. Make It Rich & Creamy

Lower the heat and add fresh cream.

Mix gently and cook for another minute or two. Avoid boiling the gravy aggressively after adding the cream.

Taste and adjust salt or consistency if required.

5. Garnish & Serve

Turn off the heat and garnish with fresh coriander.

For an extra royal touch, you can add a small drizzle of cream or a few crushed cashews on top.

Your creamy, aromatic Shahi Paneer is ready to serve!

What Makes Rakesh Masala Special?

Getting the balance of spices right is one of the secrets to a great Shahi Paneer. Rakesh Masala Shahi Paneer Masala makes the process easier by bringing together the aromatic spice profile needed to create a rich and flavorful curry.

Instead of measuring multiple spices individually, simply add the recommended quantity of Rakesh Masala to your gravy and let the blend do the work.

The result is a deliciously aromatic Shahi Paneer that tastes homemade while giving you that special restaurant-style finish.

Tips for Perfect Shahi Paneer

Use fresh paneer: Fresh, soft paneer gives the best texture.

Don’t overcook the paneer: Excessive cooking can make paneer chewy. Add it toward the end and simmer gently.

Blend the gravy smoothly: A smooth onion-tomato-cashew base gives Shahi Paneer its signature creamy texture.

Cook the masala properly: Allow the masala and gravy to cook together so the spices release their full aroma.

Add cream at the end: This helps maintain the rich, smooth texture of the curry.

What to Serve with Shahi Paneer?

Shahi Paneer tastes delicious with:

  • Butter naan
  • Tandoori roti
  • Garlic naan
  • Laccha paratha
  • Plain roti
  • Jeera rice
  • Vegetable pulao

For a complete Indian meal, serve it with naan or roti, a fresh salad, raita and a refreshing drink.
